Historical plays are focused on relating actual events that have happened in history. This can either be a tragedy or a comedy, depending on what really happened. However, it is not classified in the two because it is somewhat actual and true. The history as a separate genre was characterized by Shakespeare in his plays.

There are different genres in a theatre play. These are the comedy, farce, satirical, tragedy and historical genres. As the name implies, a comedy is a kind of play that is humorous. In a comedy, witty remarks, eccentric and unusual characters and weird happenings are essential. The director gets to decide the targeted age group which it will focus on. The comedy is half of the two original types of plays in Ancient Greece, the other being tragedy.
